Built a full-stack GRE vocabulary study app that turns a bilingual word list into focused, interactive flashcard practice sets.
Overview
FlashMob GRE groups the available vocabulary into 50-word practice sets and also offers an All Words view. Each card initially shows a GRE word, then flips on click to reveal its English meaning, Marathi meaning, and a sample sentence.
Key Features
- Responsive practice-set selection and click-to-flip study flow
- Automatic set generation based on the number of words in the workbook
- Manual word entry and bulk imports from XLSX, XLS, or CSV files
- Duplicate detection through normalized English-word matching
- Validation of Marathi meanings written in Devanagari script
- Password-protected endpoints for adding or importing vocabulary
Technical Implementation
The React and TypeScript frontend uses Vite, Bootstrap, and React Bootstrap. A Java Spring Boot API reads and updates the vocabulary workbook with Apache POI, exposes paginated word retrieval endpoints, and validates new entries before persisting them.
Deployment
The frontend and Docker-based backend are deployed on Render. Spring profiles and environment variables configure production CORS, workbook storage, and the password used to protect write operations.
